We are so excited to introduce our latest Siren; freelancer in the food and fashion space, Tara Sehmi.
We first met Tara at our good friends, @drinkamie wine bar launch a few months ago and were instantly attracted to her positive infectious personality (which is so well represented through this shoot) and fabulous fashion sense! Tara told us all about how she’d just worn Cefinn for the biggest meeting of her career (which was a total honour) and so we just knew she would be our perfect August Siren.
We spent the morning with Tara as she showed us how she would style her favourite pieces from our new Autumn collection, and how they also perfectly work for the more petite ladies (Tara is 5’4). From everyday dress down looks to important interviews Tara took each look and made it her own.
Why did you pick a Cefinn piece as your go-to for your recent big meeting?
I had the biggest meeting of my career coming up and knew I needed to wear something that said ‘I’m smart, sophisticated, confident but also the-person-who’d-be-fun-at-drinks-after’ before I even uttered a word. I wore the Dakota dres - the subtle leopard print brought the fun element, but the long sleeve made it sophisticated and pussybow fastening added intrigue. My boyfriend always says you can’t guarantee you’re the smartest person in the room but you sure can work the hardest. I’d add to that ‘and be the best dressed!’ - I certainly felt I was that day!
What do you do professionally?
I’m currently an account manager at a vegan cake brand. Upon writing this though, I’ll officially become a freelancer in the food and fashion space from September! I’ve always dreamed of running my own business and perhaps it was the confidence from the Cefinn shoot as I handed in my notice that day!
How did you start your career?
At university I ran a charity fashion show in aid of Bristol Refugee Rights. We were looking for sponsors and I got in touch with a brand called Coconut Collab who do wicked dairy alternatives. Cut to the summer and I was working for them. Throughout the next 4 years I moved from marketing to sales and have worked for some pretty epic food brands - I just love it!
What is your everyday uniform?
Right now I’m all about a killer dress with a cardi or leather jacket thrown on top, tons of gold jewellery, a dad sandal or white trainer and sunnies - no matter the weather! In the autumn I definitely lean more masculine and favour tailored trousers or a great straight leg jean, a simple tank, oversized blazer and chunky boots.
What is the best advice you’ve been given?
Reflect don’t ruminate and plan don’t panic - easier said than done! I use this to catch myself and literally say “am I reflecting or ruminating?” in my head to stop negative thoughts in their tracks.
Where did your love of fashion come from?
I was obsessed with watching the music channels (remember that?!) and all I wanted to do was recreate looks worn by Destiny’s Child and perform the ‘routines’ we made up to anyone who would watch.
How would you describe your style?
Playful and feminine - with an edge. To me your style is an extension of your personality and has a phenomenal power to transform your mood.
Who is your biggest style inspiration?
My sister, India! If I don’t know what to wear I just look at her insta,
@theindiaedit and copy her styling. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?
How did you hear about Cefinn?
My sister! Pretty much how I hear about all great brands.
Favourite pieces from Cefinn’s collection?
Ooft that checked suit! I didn’t realise until I had it on how beautiful the tones are and the fabric is to die for. I know that’s something I’ll wear again and again and again.
What do you love about Cefinn?
It encapsulates what I look for in a brand - great quality clothes with beautiful designs you’ll love for a lifetime not a season.
